ORANGE AND YELLOW

An bright yellow floats above a vibrant orange on a muted orange ground. Rothko painted with thin layers of paint to create an inner light in his paintings. The colors express emotions he felt while painting. As he explained, “The people who weep before my pictures are having the same religious experience I had when I painted them.” (www.albrightknox.org). The emotions coming through the colors in the painting inspire a spiritual experience within viewers.
