NO. 14 (PAINTING)

Rothko said, “I am interested in expressing the big emotions – tragedy, ecstasy, doom.” In this painting he does just that: Against a brown background, a red orange stripe is juxtaposed with a dark green square and a forest green rectangle. Rothko uses the subtle change of colors below the red orange shape to enhance the majestic nature of this painting. His large-scale paintings use color to envelop the viewer in deep emotions and drama.
